Sr. Advisor to NACC Executive Board
Richard serves as Senior Advisor to the NACC Executive Board. Richard is currently Senior Vice President of Education for iboss Cybersecurity. Spanning over 20 years in IT, with an accomplished career in the public education sector, Richard has served as director of network engineering and applications, executive director of data center operations, and was appointed Los Angeles County’s first Chief Education Technology Officer, leading the delivery of IT services to over 1.7 million students across 80 school districts and five community colleges.
In 2012, Richard transitioned to private sector to lead a vibrant IT consultancy specializing in the implementation of Cloud/Managed services, 1:1 mobile computing, IT consolidation and served as government lobbyist, on behalf of school districts across California. Richard also served as Senior Technology Advisor to Los Angeles Unified School District officials, including the office of the Chief Information Officer.
In 2013, Richard was chosen to serve as senior IT advisor to the National Advisory Council on Education Technology, (NACET); commissioned to advance the roll-out of the U.S. Presidents National Public Schools Broadband initiative, in support of the nation’s school districts. Richard was appointed by the California State Superintendent of Instruction to serve as a member of the State’s Education Technology Taskforce, and served as state chair of the Telecommunications and Technology Taskforce, representing California’s 58 county superintendents.
In addition to Richard’s IT leadership in public education, he has a broadcast media background; serving as technical producer and executive in charge of production for numerous broadcast clients including: PBS, JC Penny, and the Walt Disney studios. Richards career includes serving as a public high school teacher.
Richard has received two Emmy nominations from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, has been honored with California’s CalRen Gigabit award, and received multiple commendations from the California State Assembly. Richard holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in e-Government.
